Fuel Poverty Awareness Day
Every year, 17 February marks Fuel Poverty Awareness Day - the nation’s biggest housewarming drive for fuel poverty, in which it is estimated that over 4 million UK households are affected—roughly 15%. Fuel Poverty Awareness Day highlights the problems faced by those struggling to keep warm in their homes and the excellent work being undertaken to tackle the issue.
Across the country, organisations supported the day by holding events, issuing messages of support, or highlighting the issue on social media.
Aiming to raise awareness of fuel poverty, two members of our Metworks team, Sam Walby and Apprentice, McKenzie Geohagan, spent time with a number of Metropolitan tenants throughout the day including Miss Gwen Barker (pictured above). Both Sam and McKenzie discussed fuel poverty with residents touching on issues they may have while also providing information about improving energy efficiency and ultimately reducing heating costs.
Gwen was more than happy to get involved and support the cause. During the visit informed our team that she also struggles to manage when using her heating due to the costs involved. The information leaflets we provided proved very useful in assisting Miss Barker with her issues and we hope the information discussed with other residents’ benefits them to the same extent.
