Introduction

We get involved in a lot of unusual and innovative work over here in the Fortem Technical Team in our attempt to understand the complexity of buildings and improve energy efficiency across the UK housing stock. Whether we’re calculating U-Values and eliminating thermal bridges, designing renewable energy systems, or advising on the best RAL colour for tea, we’re always trying new ideas to help us consistently deliver high performance projects.

We’ve also commandeered the Fortem off-site storage unit and asset cupboards to house our huge range of monitoring and measurement equipment which we use to assess the actual performance of our retrofit projects.

It might not seem like it sometimes, but there is always method in our madness, and we want this blog to demystify what we get up to. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest technical developments, and also cast our minds back to some old projects that got us to where we are today. We hope it will also highlight the importance of energy efficiency and performance testing as the UK strives to achieve low and even zero carbon buildings.

Some words you'll hear over the coming posts include:

  • Thermal imaging
  • Air tightness testing
  • Co-heating
