The goal of Pathways4Life is simple yet powerful – to improve lives by helping people develop skills and access opportunities.
Expore the four pathways
Pathway 1 -
						School Engagement
Engaging with students in schools is important for them to consider the construction or social housing industry as a viable career choice.
It helps to encourage, diversify and widen the pool of future talent, and ensure longevity in the sector. Green skills are a big focus for the future, and engaging programmes, career talks and workshops are essential to build knowledge and interest.

“We are delighted that Fortem’s Social Value Coordinator has been working with our school as an Enterprise Advisor. He brings tremendous passion to support our commitments, his dedication to supporting students represents our core values and we’re proud that he is carrying this important torch. He has made a huge impact and his mentorship inspires students to envision bright futures.”

Pathway 2 -
						Work Experience
Our work experience programme provides hands-on experience in potential career paths. It allows the student to develop practical job skills and expand their professional network.
We offer placements to students, the unemployed, career changes and those returning to work. Typically one week, across any department, students are supported by skilled mentors and leaders within the business.
“I’ve really enjoyed learning the different types of jobs that I would be doing. The work is very practical and hands-on, which suits me a lot better. If being at school isn’t for you, like it wasn’t for me, learning on the job and doing practical work as part of a foundation course is really great.”
Ethan Austerberry, Work Experience Student
Pathway 3 - Apprenticeships & Management Trainees
Our apprentices and trainees earn as they learn. Apprentices qualify with Level 2 or 3 qualification and Management Trainees graduate with a degree level qualification.
This learning equips them with knowledge, skills, and experience, ready for a career with Fortem or new adventures.

“I joined the four-year programme after completing A Levels. My programme included placements across the business, whilst studying a Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management Degree. At the end of the placement, I decided to specialise in estimating and joined the Procurement team. The programme is an amazing opportunity, and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is interested in varied and challenging career in the housing industry.”

Pathway 4 -
						Employment
Our people are supported and encouraged to reach their full potential and are respected and empowered to develop on both a personal and career level; to become ambassadors of our business.
Our passion for people has been the reason for our success. We are a values-based business and Courage, Care and Respect underpin everything we do.
“I can’t thank Fortem enough for everything they’ve done for me. I have changed from a shy lad to a grown man and developed myself further through all the support and opportunities Fortem provide.”
Jordan Phillips, National Safety & Environment Advisor
